We had that same problem and the only way we could keep them away was to install an automatic sprinkler from Lee Valley Tools.

Yup, that was the last straw and we went out and bought one of those that day. we found it had to be aimed properly, or they just didn't care. needed a couple of days of trial and error on that one.
